For External Category:
- Passed G.C.E. (O/L) in six subjects in one sitting with credit passes for four subjects, including Sinhala / Tamil, English Language & Mathematics.
- Achieved the performance level required for tertiary education by passing the required number of subjects other than the 'General Paper' at the G.C.E.(A/L) Examination.
- Not below National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 5 in Information and Computer Technology.
For Internal Category:
- Confirmed employee with at least 05 years of satisfactory service in a permanent post in the University College (primary-level skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled categories).
- Passed in at least 06 subjects, including Sinhala/Tamil and English Language or Literature and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings at the G.C.E.(O/L) examination.
